The Henry Ford Greenfield Village 30 minutes from Parish House Inn

THE HENRY FORD
Greenfield Village

The Tin Shop at greenfield Village
The HENRY FORD is located in Dearborn, Michigan, just thirty minutes from Ypsilanti, and the Parish House Inn bed and breakfast. Under this name are it's attractions; Greenfield Village, Imax Theater, River Rouge Tour and the Museum. I am going to focus on each of these attractions separately in the next blogs.  This blog will just focus  on Greenfield Village.

The Pottery Shop at Greenfield Village
It all  began in 1929 when Henry Ford began collecting more than 100 historic buildings and thousands of artifacts.  He wanted to preserve America's agricultural and industrial roots for future generations, and so he placed them on land he owned in Dearborn in various urban and village settings.  Some of the structures that were moved and restored are Thomas  Edison's Menlo Park research laboratory, the Wright  Brothers' Bicycle Shop and Harvey Firestone's family farm.   This complex has also known as the first Theme Park and many years later,  Walt Disney used Greenfield Village as a model for Disneyland.

Today Greenfield Village  offers a wide range of attractions and activities.  It is open April 15 to November 2 from 9:30 AM to 5 PM seven days a week.  November and December hours are limited, but there are always special weekend events there.  Make your plans now for a  visit during the Spring, Summer or Fall.  To see it all usually will take more than one day, so be sure to check out our website for room  availability.

October is for Pumpkins and Mums at the Parish House Inn

An October welcome; Pumpkins and Mums
Very large Mums at the parish House Inn
It is October at the Parish House Inn  and that means it's time for all things pumpkins, apples, cranberries, pears and nuts. of course there has to the king of Fall flowers, chrysanthemums! This year I found the biggest mum I have ever seen and put them at the back entrance along.  They really make a statement. The weather has been lovely as well, so we have been able to enjoy sitting on the patio in the afternoons.  The trees are showing a lot of color now which makes driving around town a feast for the eyes.  Now is the time to plan a  getaway to our area where the color is vibrant and the Farmer's Markets are overflowing with produce. There are many things to do as well...from college sports events to just hiking or biking along the Huron River. Book your room right on line from our website...I look forward to seeing you.

Snow scenes at the Parish House Inn an Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area bed and breakfast

The Huron River is our back yard....so pretty!
The huge blue spruce is a perfect background for the sign.  The sign is brightly lit at night.
Looking at the back of the house and the entrance from the parking lot.
Our snow covered patio. It even looks pretty, tho not very inviting.

Book a room for a Friday and Saturday in January (2 nights) and you will receive a copy of our "Best of Breakfast" cookbook as our gift.
